The role of Commercial Director will be critical in ensuring the future sustainability and commercial welfare of the organisation. You will provide commercial leadership to the organisation and proactively manage commercial issues across the organisation with particular focus on the Care, Housing and Hospitality business areas. By providing a dedicated focus on commercial issues, the aim is delivering a material surplus sufficient to reinvest in and keep the organisations Care Homes, Campuses and Retirement Living attractive to residents and potential residents.

Jewish Care is the largest provider of health and social care services for the Jewish community in the UK. Every week, we touch the lives of 12,000 people. We offer a wide range of services to people who are elderly, mentally ill, people with disabilities, holocaust survivors, and refugees. We offer support and guidance to families, carers and the bereaved.

The Role

Driving commercial performance - maintaining consistently high occupancy, pricing appropriately, ensuring an efficient cost structure and obtaining value for money.

The Candidate

  1. An experienced commercial finance professional, you will bring strong technical finance understanding along with an ability to liaise effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  2. Robust post qualified experience (accountancy qualification or financial analysis qualification) in a commercial or semi-commercial environment, ideally within care, hospitality, hotels or related sectors.
  3. Knowledge and experience of commercial & operational problem solving, negotiating, and influencing at a senior level.
  4. Ability to easily communicate complex financial information to a non-finance audience, building supporting, trusting and effective relationships.

Position Overview:

The Finance Director will play a crucial role in the strategic and operational management of the financial activities of The Jewish Chronicle. This position requires a dynamic leader with a strong financial background, excellent analytical skills, and a passion for the mission of our publication. The Finance Director will oversee all financial aspects of the business, ensuring the organisation remains financially sound and compliant while supporting our growth objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

•⁠ Develop and implement financial strategies that align with the organisation’s goals and objectives.

•⁠ ⁠Oversee the preparation of financial reports, budgets, forecasts, and financial analyses to inform decision-making.

•⁠ Manage the finance team, providing leadership, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.

•⁠ Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards, including tax laws and reporting requirements.

•⁠ Monitor cash flow, and financial performance, providing insights and recommendations to the executive team.

•⁠ Collaborate with other departments to support operational efficiency and cost management initiatives.

•⁠ Lead financial audits and liaise with external auditors and Directors.

•⁠ Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures to enhance internal controls and risk management.

•⁠ Provide strategic financial advice to the CEO and Board of Directors, contributing to long-term planning and growth strategies.

•⁠ ⁠Stay informed about industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes that may impact the organisation.

Qualifications:

•⁠ ⁠Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; MBA.

•⁠ You will be a qualified accountant with (ACA, ACCA, ACMA, CIMA)

•⁠ Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior financial management role, preferably within the publishing or media industry.

•⁠ Strong understanding of financial management principles, practices, and regulations.

•⁠ ⁠ Proven experience in financial planning, analysis, and reporting.

•⁠ Excellent leadership and team management skills.

•⁠ ⁠ Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.

•⁠ Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly.

•⁠ ⁠ Proficiency in financial software and tools, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
