Jewish slalom canoeist Noemie Fox won the gold medal in the Women’s kayak cross event at the Paris Olympics on Monday.
After smashing the quarterfinals and beating her three-times Olympic medalled sister and fellow canoeist Jessica Fox for a spot in the final run, the Australian athlete claimed her first gold medal during an impressive Olympic debut.
Noemie, 27, defeated British competitor and reigning world champion Kimberly Woods, who earned a bronze medal, and French competitor Angèle Hug, who won silver.

After older sister and Australian flagbearer Jessica, 30, defended gold in the C-1 event after winning it in Tokyo and claimed her first gold in the K-1 canoe slalom event, it was younger sister Noemie’s turn to carve a triumphant space for herself in Olympic history.
Noemie started strong in the final run, pulling into second position at the first gate and fighting her way into the lead as she turned the first upstream gate, then maintained the lead despite Woods’ efforts to get in her way. Her sister and their mother, the former Olympic canoeist Myriam Fox-Jerusalmi, jumped into the water to celebrate her at the finish.
