So much deliciousness at the moment. Here are a few of my favourite listens, eats and experiences:
I’ve been planning what to cook from - Silvia Nacamulli’s Jewish Flavours of Italy.
This cookbook from one of the JC’s long term recipe writers is a gem. Not only are Silvia’s recipes super tasty and real food that she and her family eats (and has eaten for many years) but her stories of the history of her parents are engaging and a really good read. It’s also an education in Italian Jewry. Did you know Italian Jews are neither Sephardim nor Ashkenazim, but in an ‘-kim’ all of their own — Italkim, the Italian Jews who arrived in Rome long before the Ashkenazi and Sephardi divisions were created.
If you missed her book launch at JW3 you missed a treat — plenty of stories and a tonne of tasters. Don’t miss out on her delicious recipes.
I’m air frying (everything) in my new air fryer from Zwilling
I’ve finally climbed on board this latest trend and am hooked. The lovely people at Zwilling sent it to me to test drive and, unlike some gadgets, which have remained in their boxes for months (maybe years), we have been using it every day. It has produced a range of treats, from oven chips and goujons to crisp tofu cubes, roasted Brussels sprouts and butternut squash and even breakfast muffins. Some things have been more successful than others, but it has totally raised my lunch game AND kept the bills down.
On the down side, my tween daughter has discovered potato waffles can be cooked from freezer in under 10 minutes, but a plus is that even Mr P has been frying up a storm. We’ve barely turned the oven on since it landed. A winner.
And indulging in vegan chocolate brownies at Love Brownies in St Albans
My parents, who live in the centre of this historic mini city, have long raved about this cosy bakery. I’d tried their brownies — which are rich and well worth the calories — but not eaten in. A half term trip with a friend was a revelation. Fab coffee (pictured at the top of the page) in comfy chairs looking out the window while basking in the winter sun pouring through the window. (Honestly the best coffee I’ve had in a while.)
Looking forward to March hamantaschen and using up my chometz for cakes, bakes and other yummy carbs.
